HOW IT WORKS
The scheme is open to employers in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
industry in England (excluding Cornwall and South Yorkshire). A maximum grant
of £250 per employee is available with up to maximum of 25 employees per
business. All learners must be employed by your business.
Outline of the Programme
A number of key steps will take employees on their journey to excellence:
-
Establishing a baseline:
The first step is for you to join the Profit Through Productivity programme by
benchmarking your business against key performance indicators, such as labour
turnover and staff costs as a percentage of revenue. This will show how you
compare against other, similar-style businesses and will highlight the
benefits that can be gained by training your staff more effectively (typical
value of the benchmark is £85).
-
Work based mentor:
We will then train one of your key staff to be the main point of contact for
all staff on the programme. He, or she, will ensure that all staff on the
programme understand its aims and objectives and help them complete the
programme.
-
Skills audit:
In conjunction with the work based mentor, we will identify the strengths and
weaknesses of your workforce, with a view to advising on their training needs.
-
Skills passport:
This identifies the individual skills and qualifications of each employee,
providing a record of their progress through the programme.
-
Staff training:
We will discuss with employers the wide choice of training modules available to
staff. There are also a range of delivery options from 'guide and learn' in the
workplace backed up by home study, to tailor made 'classroom' sessions
delivered in the workplace, or off-site, whichever is the most appropriate.
-
Management training:
Key productivity improvement modules for supervisors and managers form an
integral part of the programme.
-
Finally - we measure the difference!
At the end of the programme, we will undertake a second benchmarking exercise
with you to measure the difference in your business productivity, and to assess
how you and your staff have benefited from the project.
Monitoring learner performance
The scheme is part financed by the European Social Fund. In order to monitor
the effectiveness of the grant, and provide a structure for learners we have
introduced an online learning time record.
